Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to work Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. I had so much fun flying to New York for the weekend to work the show and also wander throughout the city, finding new restaurants, exploring cool neighborhoods, and meeting amazing people. Before I worked on Saturday for New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, I spent all day Friday exploring the city and all it has to offer, even ending my day with two new tattoos! It was a weekend I’ll never forget. Here is my #DayDiary of December 30, 2016 – a storyline of my day in NYC told through pictures. Hope you enjoy!
First thing’s first… Once I left La Guardia airport, I knew I had to start my day off with a New York bagel. I attempted to wait in line at Ess-a-Bagel… but after 45 minutes of barely moving and increasing hunger, I walked over to a local deli to get a bagel with lox:
Next stop… I met up with my friends Bryce and Thomas, who live in NYC and were kind enough to show me around the city all day! We first took the subway to one of the top places on my NYC bucket list… Levain Bakery! (yes, a cookie place is on the top of my list…I’m obsessed with cookies, ok…) It is a tiny bakery located at 167 W 74th St and always has a long line out front… but WELL worth the wait, trust me.
They are served warm and gooey in the center and the perfect crispiness on the outside. YUM. Best cookie EVER. I got the chocolate chip walnut cookie…their classic flavor. We took our cookies to go, wasting no time to explore the city, and wandered over to Midtown, stopping by all the typical “tourist” attractions.
After our final stop, walking through the Holiday market in the Winter Village in Bryant Park, it was time to head over to my soon-to-be favorite neighborhood of New York – the West Village! We worked up an appetite with all the walking, so we decided to have a late lunch at Tacombi – street tacos and margaritas.
After having a round of margaritas for Happy Hour, it was time to cross off another item on my NYC bucket list: A trip to NYC isn’t complete without a visit to JonBoy Tattoo. I’ve been wanting to get a tattoo by JonBoy for quite some time now, so I was extremely excited when I got the chance to meet him and have him tattoo me in New York! He has a very high reputation for his minimalist tattoo style, and I can see why everyone raves about them… JonBoy created both of the tattoos I wanted even BETTER than I ever imagined them! They are the perfect minimalist tattoos – very clean, delicate, and elegant. He is an incredible tattoo artist (THE best in my opinion) and also an amazing person. He has such a great sense of humor – he had me laughing the whole time I was there, I ended up not wanting to leave because I was having so much fun! If you’re ever in New York and want the perfect minimalist tattoo – you MUST go to JonBoy.
Well there you have it! Cookies, exploring, subways, margaritas, and tattoos to top off the day. I ended the day with NY style pizza in the West Village before going back to my hotel to pass out and catch up on some sleep before New Year’s Eve. There is so much to see and do in New York, no wonder it’s called the city that never sleeps. You won’t want to sleep when you’re in New York – you’ll be too busy seeing the endless shops, restaurants, neighborhoods, and landmarks that makes NYC one of the best cities in the world. I hope to be back soon!
