This week, I had the pleasure of seeing the movie Begin Again for the first time. I won’t lie… I
partly mostly went to see it just so I could stare at Adam Levine for a good two hours… but once the movie started I immediately fell in love with the storyline, the music, and most importantly Keira Knightly’s amazing style. I loved the looks she rocked in the movie. Full of loose fitting tailored pants, collared button up shirts, and loafers, her looks were the perfect mix of sophisticated and tomboy. I was so distracted by her outfits that I ended up focusing more on how to recreate them in my head than on Adam Levine’s beautiful face on the screen. The “Boyfriend” look has been popular for awhile, but I love how Keira’s outfits were loose fitting but still structured and put together. She didn’t look sloppy, but rather sophisticated and effortless.
1. Avoid looking like your actual boyfriend. – Make sure you don’t go too loose-fitting with the look. Still show off your figure by balancing out the proportions. If you go loose on bottom, wear something tight fitting on top and vise versa. You want to make sure you don’t get lost in the laid back fit of this look.
2. It’s all in the details. – Like Keira’s above, look for pants that are tailored and structured. Or cuff the bottoms of your boyfriend pants or jeans. Ripped boyfriend jeans also give the look a nice edge. These details will keep the look more put together and stylish, rather than just a baggy pair of pants.
3. Make this look your own. – To keep this style looking unique, add accessories that go with your personal style! If you want a feminine feel, add statement jewelry and sandals. For a preppy look, loafers and a collared button up will do the trick. To edge this look up, I love wearing chunky black booties, a rocker tee, and some cool rings.
